Background: In the beginning, there was nothing. And then, one day, through the almighty power of The Spirit, there was the planet of Spiritus. Not much is known about this day of ultimate creation, except that it definitely fell on February 13th. Since then, the people of Spiritus have grown distant and waged wars over ages of unthinkable scale, and yet for all their difference, Spiritans still hold more in common than apart. All Spiritans seek liberty, happiness, and truth. All Spiritans believe in the power of love, reason, and magic. And more than that, all Spiritans just, really love potatoes.
Beatha: Beatha is a massive city nested in the Tree of Life - the very same tree of Spiritus flag fame - composed of three districts with three distinct cultures and races. Anyone from any race can live in Beatha, but the original inhabitants of the city have been influenced by the tree’s passive magic, and their ancestors now possess glowing eyes, as well as a unique sixth sense related to the district of their family’s origin. These people are known as “the Túath”, “Spirit-touched”, or colloquially, “glows”. Anyone from any biological race can develop a connection to the city over time, but only the child of a Beathan native can become a true Túath themselves. The longer a family’s residency in Beatha, the more powerful their innate magic, but it usually takes formal training to manipulate this connection in any ways that can be considered truly exceptional.
Crann: The Neighborhood in the Sky. Represents about 15% of the Beathan population. Crann is built precariously on the branches of the Tree of Life, supported by feats of both architectural and magical prowess. It is said that no two buildings in Crann lie at the same altitude. Most of the government of Beatha is situated here, and the region also sports a thriving white-collar business district. Non-natives flock to Crann during local and national festivals, but must be mindful of the higher points of the area, which can be dangerous because of the low oxygen. The rich and retired of all backgrounds often migrate here for the warm weather alone.
The Duille: Ancestors of the original Crann inhabitants who have developed darker skin, more powerful lungs, angular features, and Elven ears. They are known to value heritage and honor. Duille have an innate connection to The Spirit, which gives them a sixth sense for danger. Their eyes glow faintly purple, and this glow brightens significantly while sensing danger in this way.
Spud: The Heart of Beatha. Represents about 55% of the Beathan population. Most visitors from other cities of Spiritus and other regions of NS stay here, not least because of the beautiful parks and rivers. This is also the only viable place for Spiritus’ much-valued potato farms to thrive. Spud is a strangely rural experience sandwiched vertically between two wildly opposite metropolises (metropoli?).
The Siol: Ancestors of the original Spud inhabitants who have developed a finely-tuned sense of smell. They have a rich storytelling tradition. Siol have an innate connection to people, which gives them a sixth sense for emotion, and sometimes truth. Their eyes glow faintly orange, and this glow brightens significantly while they insight in this way.
Tuber: The Underground District. Represents about 30% of the Beathan population. Built among and around the mighty roots of the Tree of Life. Mines and subterranean farms can be found here, as well as the best water and food in Beatha. The Islandtown potato tacos are apparently a must-try. Tuber residents are known for their hospitality, but the diverse array of tunneling creatures with which Tuber shares the underground are decidedly not.
The Fréime: Ancestors of the original Tuber inhabitants who have developed paler skin, thicker hair, and darkvision (with mild to severe light sensitivity for those who travel). They cook to show love, and celebrate new types of cuisine. Fréime have an innate connection to Spiritus, which gives them a sixth sense for the condition of plants and animals. Their eyes glow faintly green, and this glow brightens significantly while empathizing with nature in this way.
tl;dr Beatha is a tech-less, magic-light fantasy city in an enormous tree divided into three districts. Crann culture is knowing how to manage potato farms, Spud culture is knowing how to grow potatoes, and Tuber culture is knowing how to cook them.

And with that, the exposition dump is complete! Alright, so here’s the plan. If you want to join in on the roleplay in any capacity, go read the Roleplay Conduct guidelines. Then, look over what I’ve come up with and figure out what you do and don’t like. If you find something you love, great, you can expand on whatever you found most interesting about Beatha in this thread. If you hate everything about Beatha, that’s also great! Pick out what it is you don’t like and use that as a jumping-off point to go in an entirely different direction with your own ideas. If it’s different enough, I encourage you to make a worldbuilding thread of your own to develop it. Remember that anything you can add to the setting (as long as it doesn't conflict with anything previously established) will help your fellow roleplayers to develop their own characters. You don't have to be a master writer to be good at RP, you just have to respect the story and respect the other players. Have fun everybody!
